Interview with Phil Porter, a geologist, concerning his experiencesin geology and the petroleum industry. Porter discusses his youth and education; his early recollections of Everette Lee DeGolyer; his employment with Geophysical Service, Inc. in 1933; his early refraction technology; his employment with Atlatl Royalty Corporation in 1939; his service as a naval officer with the Office of Procurement of Materials, Army/Navy Munitions Board, during World War II; his postwar work with DeGolyer and MacNaughton; his overseas work as a consultant for DeGolyer and MacNaughton; the formation of his own consulting company, Terramar, as part of Sedco, in 1970; his work in the Middle East; his decision to become an independant petroleum consultant; his experiences in China, South America, Africa, and the former Soviet Union; the Czech Uprising of 1969; the development of Texas Instruments out of Geophysical Service, Inc.; comments about Cecil Green, Erik Jonsson, and Clarence Karcher; and his miscellaneous activities as a petroleum consultant.
